Angels Grooming Academy

When seeking training, you should ensure your tutor is a Master Groomer, and a member of NDGANZ (National Dog Groomers Association of New Zealand) to ensure the highest standards are met.

Angel's Grooming Academy was set up by north islands first NDGANZ Master Groomer Angela Anderson to teach the art of dog grooming to the highest level.

Four courses are offered to cater for everyone.

Pet Owners Course

The Pet Owners course is a one day course designed to help you maintain your own dog.  For those who want to save money by maintaining their own pet between grooms, or just enjoy giving it a go themselves, this is a perfect way to find out what goes into the grooming of your dog. This course is also perfect for breeders and show people who need their dogs to be looking their best.

You pay for the course fee, plus the price of your dogs usual groom.  Its important to bring along any grooming equipment you have at home so you can be taught how to use it correctly, and to ensure you have the correct equipment for your breed.

Other grooming equipment can be purchased at the Academy if you wish.

Groomers Up-skilling Course

This one day course (9am to 2.30pm) is designed for the groomers who are already grooming on a day to day basis.

Because of the lack of availability of professional training schools and institution in the past, many groomers have had to learn by working for a groomer and picking up what they could, when they could, and trying to apply it in a business, or learning off videos which do not provide the opportunity for someone to critique their work and fine tune their skills.

Groomers can bring their clients dogs (up to 2 per day) and need only pay the course fee and can still charge the groom to their customer making it an economical option for up-skilling.

Bring along your equipment and learn how to maintain it to save money and time, as well as some tips and tricks to get a great groom.

Trainees Course

This forty day course runs five days a week (9am to 2.30pm) for eight weeks and is designed for the absolute beginner.

At the end of this course, you will have learnt the solid basics of dog preparation and pre-grooming and would be qualified to work as a washer/dryer/prep in a grooming salon.

Covering safety, handling, skin and coat care, as well as basic clipping techniques there is a lot to be learnt from this thorough tutelage.

In addition to the course fees, a Groomers Kit needs to be purchased which includes all the basic equipment required to take you through both the Trainees and Advanced courses. We provide the dogs for training on during these two courses.

Advanced Course

Following on from the Trainees Course, the Advanced Course is a further forty day course the following term and covers all the skills you need to complete any groom in any style.

At the end of this course you should be able to give customers basic health advice for their dogs, and breed recognition plays a big part in developing a suitable style for customer’s dogs.

Being able to finish a grooming in a timely manner and to a high standard is what will set you apart from non-trained groomers and set you on the road to a rewarding and varied career in dog grooming.
